The Center for Electromechanics performs leading-edge basic and applied research in electrical and mechanical engineering, with a special emphasis on applied engineering leading to prototype development in electromechanical devices and systems with high specific power, force, and/or energy storage or other unique attributes. This is accomplished through sponsored applied research and internships, laboratory space, prototype fabrication, and leveraging a breadth of engineering expertise.

We are a full-service podcasting production house that gives students from across the campus a chance to build high-quality, long-form podcasts. Our first podcast, "The Orange Tree," was a true-crime story that has exceeded 4.5 million listens. We have multiple other podcasts in production. We are open to working on projects with entities across the campus to tell your stories for a mass audience. We are working with Planet Texas, a UT research consortium, on a podcast about climate change.

The Texas Performing Arts Fabrication Studios are a fully staffed production facility and learning laboratory. We construct scenic elements, painted backdrops, theatrical properties, displays, and installations for funded projects. We co-design projects with UT faculty, staff, and student organizations and fabricate with our professional staff and paid student interns.

The Kendra Scott Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (KS WELI) supports creatives, founders, leaders, and allies by redefining leadership and entrepreneurship. KS WELI equips and empowers students of all backgrounds through engaging programming and events, spotlighting women-led businesses through the FoundHER Program, and sponsoring interdisciplinary courses within the McCombs Entrepreneurship Minor. Since its founding, KS WELI has become a force on UT’s campus to grow and support the number of women-owned and women-led businesses.

The Product Prodigy Institute at UT Austin is an innovative hub for engaging students that identify as first generation or low-income in startup methodologies and product management with a focus on social and environmental impact. The 2 year program equips students with cutting-edge skills in design, technology, and entrepreneurship, creating pathways to high demand careers and wealth creation. 

The Texas McCombs M.S. in Technology Commercialization (MSTC) program was the first ever go-to-market graduate program in the U.S. Designed as a launchpad for your businesses and products, MSTC gives you everything you need to take your ideas to market either through a venture of your own or an existing organization. The Texas Innovation Center offers a personalized environment for faculty and students to explore entrepreneurship that includes educational workshops, speaker series, coaching sessions, and direct guidance for technology commercialization pathways; from ideation to market validation to fundraising. We accomplish this through Startup-In-A-Box Resources, TxIC Friends and Mentors Network, Innovation Lab, and co-working space. A place to inspire, create and commercialize.

Texas Inventionworks (TIW) supports physical prototypes from idea to first article for curriculum, competition teams, research, commercialization and student-led projects.  The staff can help with almost any physical product. Visitors learn to run machines and do the work using 3D printers, laser cutters, wood and metal working, electronics and wireless. It is open to engineering students and via qualified classes or projects for other students, faculty and staff. Please connect to learn more.
